Letter from our President and Principal

Dear SFP Students, Parents and Guardians,

This spring we will continue a special activity that has become an annual tradition for students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends.

On Friday, May 14th, St. Francis Prep will host its tenth annual Walk-a-thon fundraising event. The proceeds of this event continue to benefit our Capital Improvement and Modernization Program. As a result of this program, we have already seen brand new Physical Education and Art Education Centers and completely renovated Science Classrooms and Labs. Another phase of this modernization program has been underway for the past year and will continue through next summer with the construction of new Music Education facilities and Physical Education and Athletic locker room areas.

This Annual Walk-a-thon fundraising event is very important as we plan for the Prep’s future and strive to ensure that we are always providing our students with an outstanding education in the Franciscan tradition. With this in mind, we want to bring to your attention the following important information about the Walk-a-thon event on May 14th.

This will be a regular school day. Students will come in for a required extended COR beginning with 9th and 10th graders arriving at 8:30 am and dismissal at 10:30 am, 11th and 12th graders arriving at 11:00 am and dismissal at 1:00 pm. The Senior BBQ will follow. As any other school day, students must complete the COVID screening questions. (Attendance will be taken). Students will then proceed outside for the event with their COR at the appropriate time with their teacher in charge. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and remain socially distant throughout the walk.

Every student will be required to return to the classroom with his/her COR at the conclusion of the Walk-a-thon. Bottled water and snack items will be available at that time. Attendance will be taken again!  Prize winners will be announced (see below).

Every student is expected to participate.  As in previous years, each student is responsible for the $100 Walk-a-thon fee which HAS already been paid automatically through the FACTS tuition payment program. (You are not responsible for this at this time.)

As part of the student fundraising competition to win great prizes, the student can also send in additional funds (checks should be payable to St. Francis Prep) and secure  sponsorships on the student Walk-a-thon page.

Please note: Because this event is a major fundraiser for the school, students are still strongly encouraged to obtain sponsorships and compete for valuable prizes. The $100 automatic charge (which you already paid) WILL be counted toward the student’s fundraising totals for the prize competitions.

There will be several prize competitions: 1. For the highest sponsorship total by a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior COR. (Students in the four winning CORS receive a prize.)   2. Students who secure $250 or more and $500 or more in sponsorships by May 13th will be entered into drawings to win special prizes.  3. Major prizes will be awarded to the top five (5) overall fundraising students–with the Top Individual Fundraiser receiving the GRAND PRIZE.

Copies of the Sponsorship Form to be used by the students when they secure their sponsors can be downloaded from the www.steps4prep.org website. Additional information about the event can be viewed on the website as well (including the actual prizes to be awarded.)

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this information. If you have questions after you have looked over everything on the website, please call 718.423.8810 ext. 268.

Thank you again for your cooperation. We look forward to a great end to the school year.   Stay well!

Yours in St. Francis,
